Solutions

SHAPE Technology have delivered customised IoT hardware and software solutions to clients in the following sectors:

  • Public Transport Services

  • Motorway Operations

  • Public Schools

  • Local Authorities

  • Public Water Services

  • Electricity Retailers, Local Lines Companies and National Grid Operators

  • Conservation Agencies

  • Fleet Management Companies

  • Commercial Fisheries Operators

  • Commercial Refrigeration Services in the Food and Beverage Industry

  • Primary Industries

  • Industrial Manufacturing Industries

The examples below were solutions which SHAPE Technology designed to meet specific customer requirements:

Connected School Signs

A significant investment has been made to improve road safety around schools across the country.  There are hundreds of electronic speed signs owned by each council and thousands nationwide.  Previously, all of these were reliant on the actions of each school to switch them on and off and the Transport Control Centre had no feedback or info on the status of any sign.  Ultimately this put children at risk.

SHAPE Technology developed tailored hardware, firmware and an easy to manage web interface, to allow for  full system control and monitoring of each sign including:

  • Temperature

  • Battery Voltage

  • Accelerometer - collision/theft/vanalism detection.

The schools can operate the signs stress-free knowing they are in complete control of scheduling and the Transport Control Centre has for the first time total visibility of the real time performance of all their assets.  Motiv breathed new life in to an existing investment, extending its life for years to come.

Modbus Transceiver

The Motiv Modbus-Sigfox Transceiver connects almost any industrial device with a modbus interface to a SCADA backend via the SIGFOX IoT network.

It has been designed to mount on an industrial standard DIN rail and has the following features:

  • 8-24V  DC

  • RS485/ Modbus-RTU slave device - Other RS485 protocols or Modbus master options

  • LED Display

    • Sigfox TX/RX

    • Device Alive

    • Valid Modbus Packet.

  • Typical applications utilise 19200-8-N-1 communication parameters

Data can be published into existing customer SCADA systems via a simple API. Alternatively, high volumes can be purchased connection free, where vendors take care of their own onboarding process. These devices have many use cases including monitoring of remote pump controllers, door locks and process equipment. Currently used for process reporting and alarming from remote PLCs.

The SHAPE Technology Modbus Transceiver connects almost any industrial device with a modbus interface to a SCADA backend via LPWAN IoT networks.

It has been designed to mount on an industrial standard DIN rail and has the following features:

  • 8-24V  DC

  • RS485/ Modbus-RTU slave device - Other RS485 protocols or Modbus master options

  • LED Display

    • LPWAN TX/RX

    • Device Alive

Data can be published into existing customer SCADA systems via a simple API. Alternatively, high volumes can be purchased connection free, where vendors take care of their own on-boarding process. These devices have many use cases including monitoring of remote pump controllers, door locks and process equipment. Currently used for process reporting and alarming from remote PLCs.

Industrial Process Monitoring

Gaining insight from cyclic industrial processes allows management to understand how their shop-floor is performing, and help to make informed maintenance and productivity decisions. SHAPE Technology developed a solution for a manufacturing company to passively monitor 5 digital inputs in order to capture cycle times and fault states. The device captures:

  • GPS location ( +WiFi sniffing )

  • Temperature

  • Humidity

  • Pulse inputs / fault signals

The devices were designed to be retrofitted to legacy equipment as well as be introduced at OEM. The data is visualised through the SHAPE Technology Platform. The client has been extremely progressive in their technology adoption and been on a very successful IoT journey.

Vehicle Speed Monitoring

Transport agencies have a focus on traffic flow and safety. SHAPE Technology have developed a series of car-speed monitoring solutions to fit into speed indicating signs at OEM, as well as as for retrofitment programmes. This enables councils, planners, and enforcement organisations to understand traffic patterns and identify anomolies.

High quality radars are used to capture car counts, maximum speed, percentage of speeders and determine speed profiles. It enables transport agencies to demonstrate the efficacy of their strategic road-speed interventions in targeted areas, such as near schools and parks.

Cables, brackets, and translation of radar data can each be tailored to particular use cases. Typical installations are solar powered, and accept 8-20V input.
